Boston Housing Authority, Old Colony Housing Redevelopment- Boston, MA

Boston Housing Authority has set a strategic goal to develop a new Net Zero Energy public housing development covering 16 acres at its Old Colony Housing in Boston. This project is the nation’s first public housing initiative undertaken at this scale. While early phases of the project will not be able to fully accomplish the goal, BHA is taking a longer-term approach to achieving Net Zero over a number of phases and many years. 

Bourne Mill Apartments Tiverton, RI

The Bourne Mill project is a redevelopment of a waterfront mill site on Cook Pond, located on the state line between Fall River, MA and Tiverton, RI. The project consists of the development of 165 multi-family rental units located within eight historically renovated buildings. The units are loft-style in design, with a mixture of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Of the units constructed, 39.7% are affordable. The project’s green features include natural daylighting strategies, high-efficiency lighting, ENERGY STAR appliances and open space conservation. SPI serves as the sustainability and LEED consultant to the owner on the project.

Egleston Crossing Roxbury, MA

Egleston Crossing is the first green mixed-use brownfield redevelopment project undertaken by Boston’s Urban Edge community development corporation. The development consists of 64 units of affordable housing with ground-floor commercial space. Green strategies pursued on the project include photovoltaics, low-flow plumbing fixtures, high-efficiency boilers, and ENERGY STAR lights and appliances. SPI assisted in facilitating the project and provided technical support.

Erickson Retirement Communities: Linden Ponds Project Hingham, MA

The Linden Ponds project is a 650,000 square foot new retirement community in Hingham, MA, consisted of four residential buildings and one commercial building. The commercial building was intended to house amenities for the residents, such as an assembly space and a barber shop. The project continued almost entirely through design but was eventually put on hold.

Jackson Square Development Roxbury, MA

LEED-ND Silver Certified Plan - This 10-acre urban development, the result of a multi-year planning process undertaken by a collaborative of Boston-area organizations, is comprised of numerous buildings of varying types, including retail and office, housing and two community facilities for youth and families. This transit-oriented development project will be build on mostly vacant and contaminated land at the crossroads of two Boston neighborhoods, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury. Strategy highlights include passive strategies for the entire redevelopment, low impact development strategies for water and habitat management, high performance envelope, green roofs and an education program centered on the project’s sustainable features. SPI worked with the developers on the master plan and sustainability guidelines for the entire development and supported implementation of those guidelines on individual parcels.
