Giving New Meaning To The Role Of Sustainability Consultant

Sustainability consulting can mean many things. For SPI, consulting means being there for our clients from start to finish. It means building your capacity to solve your problems while coaching you along the way. It means working with you to formulate explicit goals, to develop an implementation roadmap, and to help you deliver on it. It means helping your company internalize best practices and embed them in systems and processes that will ensure consistent, high quality results that you can measure. It means moving from reactionary, “on-demand” green to excellence.

Our vision is to help you realize your vision. We share the metrics and methodologies to simplify and accelerate your path to success. Similar to our educational programming, our consulting services are organized into project consulting and organizational consulting.

LEED As If Performance Mattered

At first glance, our Project Consulting services for commercial, institutional and multi-family clients look like those of a typical LEED consultant – feasibility, project management and submittals – the typical trifecta of LEED consulting. But our project consulting is anything but typical. Everything that we’ve learned about the causal relationship between integrative design processes and high performance projects influences our work. In many cases, our clients come to us looking to get their project LEED Certified, but we one-up them.

We work with our clients to achieve energy, water, waste and other performance goals - then go beyond that to help clients institutionalize these capabilities to become part of the client’s DNA. It takes more than technical peer review to deliver high quality – it takes coaching, strategy and discipline. After all, LEED doesn’t necessarily mean better performance – but it can with the right consultants.

Yes, You Can Measure Success

SPI’s Organizational Consulting services for design and construction companies and building owners support the SPI Criteria. These criteria provide a roadmap to help companies institutionalize sustainability across all areas of their business, from HR to project delivery, IT to leadership, marketing to quality control.

Organizational consulting helps companies answer the essential questions: "how can my company more effectively and efficiently deliver consistent, high quality sustainability services?" and "how can we improve performance and profitability at the same time?” Organizational consulting is not divorced from sustainable project delivery – it’s a force that drives that delivery and enables you to continuously improve performance. Our assessment, goal setting and coaching services are designed to help you identify and implement the best strategies for your company.

The consulting team at SPI is responsible for greening more than 10 million square feet of projects including 35 LEED Certified projects (including several LEED Platinum projects) from the largest of master plans to the smallest of banks.

Organizational Consulting

You Want To Do The Right Thing. You Just Need To Know How

Every company struggles to institutionalize sustainability.  Challenges arise from a wide range of issues: the size of the organization, the difficulty of transforming culture, time-consuming efforts to build capabilities, or client demands. Achieving your company’s performance goals consistently requires a continuous commitment and is significant roadblock for all companies. SPI works side by side with your company to understand where you are, identify where you want to go, and formulate how to get there – no matter where you are or what your scope of services is.
